What Kelly says about her dental trauma . . .
Losing your four front teeth is not pleasant, I can tell you this from first-hand experience (I don't recommend doing this). Fortunately, I was referred to Portland Perio Implant Center by my general dentist following a bad accident.
I was in a very fragile state during my first consult with Dr. Haghighat. I was still in shock from my accident, I didn't know what the next step in my treatment would be. I had no idea if I would ever smile again.
I walked out of his office after my initial consult a little less fragile and confident that he would restore my smile. During the consult his staff was friendly and empathetic, he showed care and concern when asking me about my accident. He asked me how I wanted my smile to look, and he was very thorough in the description and timing of my treatment plan.
After this visit, I knew it would take time to restore my smile, and I knew there were going to be some uncomfortable days ahead. But I was certain Dr. Haghighat was the best periodontist to perform my treatment. He is a perfectionist. I quickly realized this after my first surgery with him and knew my smile was in good hands.
I spent a lot of time in the office over the course of a year and a half. Dr. Haghighat and his staff always made me feel at home and comfortable throughout my treatment. If you find yourself missing a few teeth, like myself, and you are looking for true professionals who provide exceptional care, I would highly recommend Portland Perio Implant Center. The best of the best. Dr. Haghighat made a horrible experience a little less painful (a lot less painful, actually) and restored my smile.
Treatment: Extensive Bone Graft Reconstruction & Dental Implants
Kelly was referred to us by her restorative dentist following an injury sustained to the face and mouth that resulted in the fracture of multiple natural front teeth. One of the first features one notices in others is their smile, so the sudden loss of front teeth would be devastating for most people. The psychological trauma with loss of confidence to smile and self-consciousness in social settings are common negative impacts.
Kelly came to us after preliminary efforts were made to stabilize her broken and mobile teeth. A thorough clinical and radiographic assessment was undertaken, which included a 3D facial scan to verify the extent of damage to the dents-alveolar complex. Unfortunately, it was determined that all 4 anterior teeth were non-restorable and furthermore the extent of damage to the surrounding bone was severe. Another factor that made her case more challenging was the presence of an average to high smile line such that the tooth, crown, and gum tissues were visible during a full smile.
"I was certain Dr. Haghighat was the best periodontist to perform my treatment."
KELLY, Patient
It was imperative to listen and understand Kelly’s desires in order to effectively communicate the parameters of therapy and establish realistic goals and timelines for achieving the desired outcome.
The timeline for Kelly’s treatment was outlined and given the severity of her injuries, realistic expectations for every stage of therapy was set. The initial phase of her therapy addressed the hard and soft tissue deficiencies. This would involve extensive bone grafting for reconstruction of the damaged alveolar bone, and soft tissue grafting to create a foundation for future dental implant restorations that would be in harmony with the surrounding tissues and thus esthetically pleasing.
After a 6-month period to allow bone healing, two dental implants were placed that would eventually support a 4-unit bridge. Once the implants had integrated with the bone, which typically requires a 3-4 month period, a temporary bridge was used for soft tissue sculpting to create an anatomically natural contour of the gingiva. This phase was followed by fabrication and delivery of a permanent restoration.
Kelly has since been enjoying her new smile and we are happy to have been trusted with the challenge.
"Management of these complex cases not only requires in-depth knowledge of bone and soft tissue biology but also advanced expertise in surgical and prosthetic techniques and protocols."
